Tucked away on the shoreline of Davaar Island, Barnacle Cabin is a private island retreat made for two.
Reached by tidal causeway just minutes from Campbeltown, the island feels wonderfully removed from everyday life. When the tide is high, it’s just you, the sea and the changing light across the water.
Hand built in wood with sheep’s wool insulation and oak-framed double glazing, the cabin is warm, quiet and intimate in all seasons. Large windows overlook the sea, perfect for slow mornings with coffee or evenings watching fishing boats return to harbour.
Cook over the firepit, walk the shoreline at sunset, spot seals from the rocks, and fall asleep to the sound of the tide.
Private. Peaceful. Unforgettable.

Davaar Island is just 3 miles directly south of Campbeltown on the Mull of Kintyre – one of Scotland’s most secluded spots. The journey to reach the cottages on the island makes a beautiful trip itself – with the Dhorlin (causeway) exposed twice a day at low tide.
On the mainland, we have a designated parking area where guests can leave their car. From here we will transport you and your luggage across the tidal causeway in our dedicated island 4×4.
When you book your stay we will advise on the best crossing times according to the tides.
Guests are also welcome to consult our **Davaar Island Tide Timetable 2026** or the **BBC tide times for Campbeltown**, which give the tide times for the week ahead and can be helpful when planning your journey.
As a general guide, it is usually safe to walk the causeway for approximately three hours either side of low tide.
Please note that we may have other guest arrivals or departures to coordinate, so transfer times will always be confirmed in advance. We ask guests to adhere to the agreed timings to ensure everyone’s safety and a smooth crossing.
If you have any questions at all about the journey, please do get in touch — we are always happy to help.

A wonderful private and peaceful pod on a cliff with stunning views. We had the island to ourselves for most of our stay. The wildlife is beautiful and the island of Aran as a backdrop to your walks is really spectacular. Would go again in a heartbeat. The hosts are amongst the best I have encountered. Lovely people with a good sense of humour.
Barnacle Bothy is just the perfect place for a relaxing away from it all break. It’s small but has everything you need for a chilled time. Walking the island is something I could never get tired of, and we were lucky enough to see dolphins, seals and a sea otter a few times. To cap it all, the Northern Lights also made an appearance. The caretakers are the loveliest people too, always ready to help or offer advice if needed. I’ll definitely be back!!
This was our second stay at Barnacle on Davaar Island and it was even better than the first time. The cabin is beautiful and had lovely little Christmas touches, that were much appreciated. The hot water in the shower is great after a hike on the island and the highland cows were a surprising and friendly addition! We would recommend this destination to anyone who wants to try something a bit different and is in need of a bit of peace and quiet. Couldn’t fault the cabin or hosts and had a brilliant time, thanks again for having us.
The Island caretakers provide an excellent service and warm welcome to this beautiful island hideaway. The cabin is cosy and has everything you need. The ride across the causeway was great. The ideal place for a few nights escape. We enjoyed the many caves, bird watching, swimming and the fire pit.
Beautiful location, cabin and views. Everyone went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and took care of us. It is such a beautiful part of Scotland - and we were surrounded by lots of wildlife. We had lots of amazing sights including wild goats and a minke whale. If you want to take a step out of the 9-5 and relax then this is the destination for you! We can't wait to return.
