A Romantic Hideaway on Davaar Island
Perched on a windswept hilltop just 100 yards above the iconic Davaar Island Lighthouse, **The Lookout** is a former wartime signal station transformed into a secluded, one-bedroom retreat. With breathtaking views across Kilbrannan Sound to Arran and Ailsa Craig, it’s the perfect place to unwind, reconnect, and soak in the elemental beauty of the west coast of Scotland.
Inside, the ground floor opens into a cosy, open-plan kitchen and sitting area, complete with a wood-burning stove and a fully equipped kitchen, offering the perfect setting for quiet mornings or intimate evenings by the fire. Every detail, from the retained wartime features to the warm, inviting decor, adds to the cottage’s unique charm.
The bedroom, tucked off the sitting room, offers a luxurious king-size bed with a heated mattress topper and crisp 100% cotton linen. An ensuite bathroom with a modern shower ensures comfort and convenience.
Upstairs, a private observatory invites you to lose yourself in the horizon. Relax in comfortable seating, browse a curated collection of books and art materials, and enjoy the views through the resident telescope. A ladder from the sitting room—one of the cottage’s original features—connects you to this inspiring space (please note it is not suitable for children or those with mobility issues).
From the observatory, step onto the roof terrace, a hidden perch perfect for soaking up the sun by day or stargazing by night. The fire pit adds a magical touch, turning clear nights into unforgettable evenings under the stars.
Accessible yet wonderfully private, The Lookout is an effortless escape—romantic, elemental, and ready for your next adventure.

Davaar Island is just 3 miles directly south of Campbeltown on the Mull of Kintyre – one of Scotland’s most secluded spots. The journey to reach the cottages on the island makes a beautiful trip itself – with the Dhorlin (causeway) exposed twice a day at low tide.
On the mainland, we have a designated parking area where guests can leave their car. From here we will transport you and your luggage across the tidal causeway in our dedicated island 4×4.
When you book your stay we will advise on the best crossing times according to the tides.
Guests are also welcome to consult our **Davaar Island Tide Timetable 2026** or the **BBC tide times for Campbeltown**, which give the tide times for the week ahead and can be helpful when planning your journey.
As a general guide, it is usually safe to walk the causeway for approximately three hours either side of low tide.
Please note that we may have other guest arrivals or departures to coordinate, so transfer times will always be confirmed in advance. We ask guests to adhere to the agreed timings to ensure everyone’s safety and a smooth crossing.
If you have any questions at all about the journey, please do get in touch — we are always happy to help.
NB: strictly no visitor vehicles on Davaar (incl 4x4)

What an amazing place to stay. The Lookout was the perfect place for a peaceful, private getaway, far removed from the hustle of normal life. The surroundings are stunning, with views of the sea from every window.Even the trip to the island feels like an adventure! Si met us on the mainland, helped us transfer our luggage into his 4x4, and then drove us across the shingle beach to the island. He was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, giving us great tips on what to see and do while we were there. Everything you could possibly need for your stay is supplied. The kitchen is fully equipped so you can cook whatever you want (you just need to bring the ingredients). There’s a log burner in the main living space and a full supply of wood so you can create a cosy atmosphere in the evenings. The lookout upstairs is a beautiful spot to just sit and take in the views. We are already looking forward to our next visit. An absolutely perfect place to stay!
This is the most amazing place to stay, surrounded by beautiful coastal scenery and wildlife. So peaceful and relaxing. Waking up to find sheep and Highland cows grazing on your doorstep was an added bonus. The house is small, but clean, and well equipped with everything we needed. The caretakers were great hosts, and although living next-door, gave you privacy. It is a real privilege having the island to yourself and the few other guests staying there, at high tide. We are already missing staying on Davaar Island, and would love to return - many thanks.
Thank you for a wonderful stay at the Lookout Cottage. A warm and cosy place with all the amenities you need in amazing surroundings. Highly recommend the cottage for a relaxing break on a beautiful island with excellent hosts!
This is a total shut down on anyone’s normal day to day life. It is so so quiet you can hear the sheep munching on the grass. If you are looking for a total get away and switch off this is it. We were there for 4 nights and were blessed with blue skies, and warm sunshine, by day and clear star clustered skies by night. Great place to stay and will be back one day!
Lovely peaceful stay on Davaar Island. Beautiful place to stay and Ned and Toni were the perfect hosts. Great for a bit of paddle boarding and watching the wildlife. Saw dolphins and seals and even managed to watch an Otter dining on an Octopus! Fantastic relaxing break.
We had an amazing stay at The Lookout.....it is very well equipped - we cooked every night and did not find ourselves without any utensils etc. We especially loved the electric blankets in the bed! The island is of course very remote, but in the best way, with beautiful surrounding views and walks. We climbed the various hills to watch the sun rise and set and it was well worth it. We chose to walk at low tide into town which as great and in town there are good local shops and pubs. We can’t thank you enough for making sure our stay was cosy and pleasant.
